{"id":30,"date":"2009-10-30T16:47:04","date_gmt":"2009-10-30T20:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rds-net.com\/seblog\/?p=30"},"modified":"2013-04-04T22:20:32","modified_gmt":"2013-04-05T02:20:32","slug":"make-a-great-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/resourcedevelopmentsystems.com\/seblog\/2009\/10\/make-a-great-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Make a Great Day!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have often received comments about how I end e-mails, letters, and sign my books with \u201cMake a Great Day!\u201d instead of \u201cHave a Great Day,\u201d so I thought I would share my reasoning.\u00a0 In Leadership Lessons From the Medicine Wheel I share in Chapter 1 about the concept of Intent, which is closely linked to Volition, and has a lot to do with Personal Responsibility.\u00a0 Intent or Volition resides in the Center within us.\u00a0 We have the choice to determine things for ourselves.\u00a0 As a result, we either choose to do things or we choose to allow others to do things for or to us.<\/p>\n<p>An example of this is the story I share in Chapter 4 about Personal Power.\u00a0 In the story my friend the hospital administrator chose to give his Personal Power away by allowing the actions of the doctor to \u201cmake him angry.\u201d\u00a0 In other words, the administrator made the choice to allow the doctor to control the administrator\u2019s emotions.\u00a0 My friend gave away his Personal Power to the doctor at the same time as he was stealing the Personal Power from the elder. \u00a0An interesting paradox, indeed!<\/p>\n<p>So what does this all have to do with the \u201cMake a Great Day!\u201d that I so often share?\u00a0 Well, when we say \u201cHave a Great Day\u201d or \u201cHave a Nice Day\u201d we are using a more passive tense in our choice of words.\u00a0 Through this choice of words we acknowledge that the ability to have or not to have a nice or great day is up to environmental controls that we have no real control over.\u00a0 Sure, we\u2019ll have a nice day if it happens, but if it doesn\u2019t, then there\u2019s just nothing that we can do about it, right?<\/p>\n<p>Wrong!\u00a0 We do have the ability to choose how we will act and behave, and we can chose how we will react to other\u2019s behaviors.\u00a0 One of the basic tenants of the Adventures in Attitudes\u00ae program from Inscape Publishing, which was originally created by Bob Conklin over 50 years ago, is \u201cI can\u2019t help the way I think and feel, but I can help the way I act.\u201d\u00a0 And, of course, our choice in actions provides a double-loop feedback, of sorts, that can impact on how we think and feel.<\/p>\n<p>So we can make a choice in how we will act as we go throughout the day, and as such we can make that great day for ourselves that I wish everyone.\u00a0 It simply starts with Intent and making the choice to retain your Personal Power.\u00a0 No matter what happens during your day, you can choose to make it great.\u00a0\u00a0 So stop taking the chance on having a great day just happen and start making great days happen\u00a0for yourself every day.<\/p>\n<p>Make a Great Day!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have often received comments about how I end e-mails, letters, and sign my books with \u201cMake a Great Day!\u201d instead of \u201cHave a Great Day,\u201d so I thought I would share my reasoning.
