Transition: Managing the Human Side of Change™

Change happens.  It can be negative change, like the loss of a job; or positive change, such as a relocation that offers new opportunities.  Either way, many employees have trouble moving from the comfort of the familiar through the uncertainty of change to a new beginning.  Helping employees understand change and how to deal with their own reactions to that change is a major undertaking for any organization.  With a business climate that is constantly changing, managing change is a priority for any successful organization.

A Learning Guide on Change and Transition

In a high performance workplace, change is a constant, and is very necessary if the organization is to be innovative and to continually stimulate progress.  Change happens on three levels in the organization: strategic; tactical; and personal.  We help organizations deal with the strategic and tactical levels of change through our Strategic Planning Process and our Management Development Process.  But individuals need a different approach.  That’s where we use Transition: The Personal Path Through Change.

The personal level of change is quite different from the other levels.  Change happens and it is over with.  One day things are one way, and the next day they are different.  That part of change is really easy.  But on the personal level we are dealing with the individual emotions that each person feels about the change.  This is called a transition.

Authored by Dr. William Bridges, noted expert on corporate change, Transition: The Personal Path Through Change helps employees understand that change is a journey, not an event.  It is based upon a structured three-stage process that Dr. Bridges has refined over 20 years of corporate consulting.  Using the insights of the DiSC® Behavioral Management System™, the Transition Model helps each employee find the most personally effective way of moving through transition.

Transition is the gradual, psychological process that we undergo in response to changes that occur in the world around us.  Dr. Bridges defines three guideposts on the path to successful transition: Endings, The Neutral Zone, and New Beginnings.

We offer this program as a one day event for all levels of employees in the organization.  It can also effectively be delivered as a self-study program.  Please feel free to discuss with us the method that is best for your organization.

Transition will help your organization to:

  • Speed implementation of new structures and policies

  • Improve strategic outcomes

  • Facilitate organizational development

  • Gain adoption of new technology or work processes

  •  Retain key employees and customers during change
